Sunday 27th January



World Mission The media coverage of the Syrian situation is heart rending. Next Sunday, 3rd February as part of World Mission Sunday, we will hear from Sheilagh Kesting who visited Syria in her Moderator's year and has a deep concern for the situation there.

In the afternoon at 3.00pm classical guitarist and Tenor Martin Aelred will give a concert to raise funds for Mary's Meals, who now feed over 700,000 children in their place of education. £10.71 will feed one child for a year.
Come and see the DVD and hear some beautiful music.
Tickets £5, from World Mission Committee members or the Church office.

Information leaflets on World Mission Gift Day, including Gift Day envelopes are available at the back of Abbey Church and in Dirleton porch.

House Group meets Tuesday 29 January at 7.30pm at 11 Ben Sayers Park . Just come along, all are welcome.

Dirleton Prayer Service is on Wednesday at 10.00am in the hall, followed by coffee – all very welcome.

Choir practice on Thursday 31 January at 8.00pm in Abbey new hall.
All who enjoy singing will be most welcome

East Lothian Food Bank is collecting items to distribute locally to those in need. Pick up an item list at the back of the church if you can help, and bring items to church or the office.

Running Beyond Limits – An evening with Ultra Marathon Runner Andrew Murray who will talk about his 2012 adventures – Wednesday 27 February at 7.30pm in Palmerston Place Church. Admission free with donations to Chogoria Hospital, Kenya.  Information on notice board or from the office.

Sunday 20th January


Bethany - There will be a short meeting after Abbey morning service today  to organise the care shelter evenings on Sun. 3rd Feb, Sat. 2nd March and Wed. 13th March. Anyone able to help, please come along or if unable to come contact Dorothy Kirkpatrick or Joyce at the office.

Abbey Guild – Joint meeting on Tuesday 22 January at 7.30pm in St Andrew Blackadder. Speaker from The Julius Project. All very welcome.

Dirleton Prayer Service is on Wednesday at 10.00am in the hall, followed by coffee – all very welcome.

Annual Malawi Coffee Morning is on Saturday 26 January in the Hope Rooms from 10.00am- 12 noon. Donations of baking, bric-a brac, etc would be welcome and can be handed in from 9.00am.

Would you like to help? We are seeking helpers to join the Door Duty rota. You will only have to commit to one Sunday every three months. Your duties would include welcoming the congregation at the door, taking the collection and helping to count the money at the end of the service. You can have input into which dates would suit you. If you feel you could offer your services in this area then please speak to Sheila Burgon (893564) or email at sgburgon@aol.com

Sunday 13th January


A group from the church will be going to a performance of Verdi's Requiem and Te Deum at the Usher Hall, Edinburgh on Sunday 24 February 2013.
The performance starts at 7.30pm. Lifts should be available if we share cars. Tickets will cost £20 - £24. Anyone who is interested in attending should contact Robert Burgon  today or as soon as possible.

House Group restarts on Tuesday 15 January at 7.30pm at 11 Ben Sayers Park. Just come along, all are welcome.

Happy Epiphany and New Year!


Abbey Guild meets on Tuesday 8 January at 2.00pm in Abbey new hall.
Bill Miller will show some of his wonderful collection of slides. All welcome.

Regal meets on Thursday 10 January at 12 noon in Abbey old hall.
Maurice Paterson will talk on ‘Tracing your family tree’.  A soup & sandwich lunch will be served afterwards. Do come along – all are very welcome.
